Japanese to English translation for MSX by MSX Translations

                                 version 1.0.0

                             Released OCT.01.2017

							     NEW IN THIS VERSION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
   First public release.

									 HISTORY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had this translation lying around for a very long time, but finally went
into finishing it at the end of 2016 when we learned about the Carnivore 2
cartridge. It features FMPAC as a part of it, so was very logical to fit
translation there since we were thinking there was not too much use for it in
emulators alone. But now after its release we can see that it can be a good
addition to any emulator that supports FMPAC as well. Sharksym has developed 2
devices that feature FMPAC save support: paraMSX-R and PAC-V.
Here are the links to these devices:

							 How to use in Emulators
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

openMSX:
[Windows PC][option 1] you can put IPS file "FMP100EN.IPS" in
		"\Users\[User Name]\My Documents\openMSX\share\extensions" so it
will be soft patched. After that place the XML file
		"fmpac_english.xml" from this package in
		"\Users\[User Name]\My Documents\openMSX\share\extensions"
Then select "FMPAC ENGLISH" from the Extensions menu with
Catapult, the OSD menu or with the console. We advice you to use
this option. Please see a picture of how it looks in this
		package "openMSX_FMPAC_softpatched_IPS.png" file.

		[Windows PC][option 2] - "FMPAC.ROM" usually located in folder
		"Program Files\openMSX\share\systemroms".
Copy ROM from there in a separate folder, patch it with the IPS
patch and then copy it back or in the folowing path
		"\Users\[User Name]\My Documents\openMSX\share\systemroms".
You can rename it as "FMP100EN.ROM". Keep a copy of the
original file. After that copy "fmpac_english_pr.xml" file from
		this package into "C:\Program Files\openMSX\share\extensions".
If you have issues to make it work, you may need to change SHA1
in the XML file. Then select "FMPAC ENGLISH PR" from the
Extensions menu with Catapult, the OSD menu or with the console
Please see a picture of how it looks in this package
		"openMSX_FMPAC_patched_ROM.png" file.

FMPAC data is located in the following folder on the PC:
		"Users\[User Name]\Documents\openMSX\persistent\[FMPAC Name]\
		untitled[?]\fmpac-eng.pac"

		[Linux/ Unix]
See above for the option under [Windows PC] but with different
		paths.
		"FMPAC.ROM" located in folder "/opt/openMSX/share/systemroms/"
		or "/usr/share/openmsx/systemroms/".
The folder for the IPS file to soft patch the FMPAC is either
		"/opt/openMSX/share/extensions" or
		"/usr/share/openmsx/extensions"
		Place the XML file from
		this package in "/opt/openMSX/share/extensions" or
		"/usr/share/openmsx/extensions".

blueMSX:
		"FMPAC.ROM" located in folder
		"C:\Program Files (x86)\blueMSX\Machines\Shared Roms".
Copy ROM from there in a separate folder, patch it with the IPS
patch and then copy it back. Good idea to keep a copy of the
original file. Inside the emulator go to "File", then
"Cartridge Slot 1" or "Cartridge Slot 2", "Insert Special",
		"FM-PAC Cartridge".

FMPAC data is located in "Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\
		VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\blueMSX\SRAM"
The file is called FmPacA.sram for slot 1 and FmPacB.sram if
		used from slot 2.

RuMSX:
		"FMPAC.ROM" located in folder
		"C:\Program Files (x86)\Lex Lechz\RuMSX\ROM".
Copy ROM from there in a separate folder, patch it with the IPS
patch and then copy it back. Good idea to keep a copy of the
original file. Inside the emulator go to "Emulator", then
"Change media...". Then click on "Slot 1" or "Slot 2".
Then click on down arrow near "Change" and choose
"RuMSX ROMs...". In the popup menu double click on "FMPAC.ROM".
Then click "OK" to close the menu. After that choose "soft-boot"
or "hard-boot" and click "OK" to restart the MSX.

		FMPAC data is located in
		"Users\[User name]\AppData\Roaming\Lex Lechz\RuMSX\SRAM"

		The file is called pac.dat

! Please note you may use multiple FMPAC cartridges in each of
		  the above emulators !

									   FILES

FMP100EN.DSK - Disk image that contains the translated sample basic song
		  from the manual.

fmpac_english.xml - XML file necessary for OpenMSX to use with IPS patch.

fmpac_english_pr.xml - XML file necessary for OpenMSX to use with patched ROM

   FMP100EN.TXT - this text file.

openMSX_FMPAC_softpatched_IPS.png - picture showing openMSX with soft IPS
				       patch.

openMSX_FMPAC_patched_ROM.png - picture showing openMSX with FMPAC.ROM file
				   pre-patched with IPS file.

							 HOW TO APPLY THIS PATCH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. This patch is in the IPS format. That means you need to apply it with an IPS
patch program. There are many programs to choose from. On a regular MSX you
can use IPS4MSX.COM. Lunar IPS or IPS.EXE for instance do the job nicely on
PCs. MAC-users can apply the patch with a program like UIPS. But there are
many other suitable programs. If you're planning to use the translated
version on openMSX you don't need to patch your ROM at all. This emulator
supports soft patching. Look in openMSX' documentation on how to use patches
   in this way.

2. Make a dump of FM PAC for MSX. If you don't know how to do this
or if you don't have the equipment to do it yourself AND own the original
cartridge, then you can get one of the ROM files available on the internet.
Be sure you use the patch on a clean dump though. Any changes made to the ROM
file, like for instance an applied cheat, might result in undesirable
side-effects after patching. Make a back up of the dumped ROM file just in
   case.

3. Place the IPS program, this patch and the ROM of FM PAC you want
to patch in the same directory. Apply the patch to the ROM file.

4. On an MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ or Turbo R the program might work with any type of
flash rom program you can also use the Japanese FM PAC ROM with. Provided
that you have enough memory of course. Seeing the FM PAC is loaded on
emulators as a special cartridge type/ extension in many emulators see the
instructions on how to load it in the section about emulators in this text
   file.

Carnivore 2: before its development there was no obvious way how to load a
patched ROM on a real MSX and use the SRAM. Hearing about the
start of its development triggered us to finish this
		translation.
